Alternate Title

I really wanted to title this post "F*cking Idiot"...

LD's mom, A, has a friend who is pregnant with tw1ns. One of the tw1ns is measuring behind of the other. She is currently measuring at 25 weeks, but the smaller tw1n is measuring 22 weeks. It started by one being just a couple days larger, then a week, then two and now three. I asked her what the diagnosis was, but she can't remember. It's a syndrome of some sort.

Anyway, she went to the doctor recently and the outcome is not good. They do not expect both tw1ns to survive. Because they are fra.ternal and not ident.ical they can't perform surgery on them, for whatever reason. They plan on delivering both babies once the smaller of the two reaches 28 weeks in gestation. That's 6 weeks away. They don't even expect the smaller tw1n to make it to that date.

So, in 6 weeks, the tw1ns will be delivered. The smaller will be 28 weeks and the older roughly 31 weeks. They could both survive, and they could both die, or one could live. No one really knows but they aren't too hopeful.

A. just doesn't get it. She's already purchased her a set of tw1n onesies and keeps encouraging her to buy things and paint the nursery pink (it's currently blue for her 2 year old son). She's not doing it to keep her hopeful and optimistic, she's doing it because she's always wanted a girl and she's treating her friends' pregnancy as if it were her own. She was talking to me about it today and saying how she doesn't understand why her friend isn't more motivated. DUH!

My advice: "whatever you do, do not give her those tw1ns onesies. If something happens, they'll be a painful reminder". Well too late, she already did.

Earth Day

For me, Earth Day isn't necessarily about recycling, reducing or reusing. It's about enjoying what surrounds us and celebrating the planet we live on.

2007- We planted a flowering Bradford Pear tree for the boys.

2008- I photographed our Red Bud in full bloom.

2009- We hung a bird house in our Oak tree.

And fed the birdies. (The tree below the bird feeder is the Bradford Pear we planted a couple years ago. It's grown twice it's size.)

How will you celebrate Earth Day?

Opposite Day

It's rainy and gray. The house is dark and still.

I need to be reminded of brighter, happier moments like this one.

And this one.

What thoughts or images make you happy?

An Innocent Comment

Over the weekend on my other blog, someone left a comment that has been bugging me. I tried to let it go and I just haven't been able to.

The comment was seemingly innocent and was not left to cause harm, it was simply an observation, though I don't know how they came to that conclusion.

"Looks like you've got it all this weekend."

I wanted to send them an email or a comment contradicting them but I didn't think that was fair to them. If they only knew.

Perhaps Next Year

Last year, I had high Easter expectations. I thought and hoped this Easter would be different.

I had dreams and high hopes for my babies/would-be toddlers dressed in their Sunday best, being oohed and ahhed over. We would take pictures of them with the scary, freaky looking Easter bunny at the mall and they'd more than likely cry. They would wear pastel overalls adorned with fuzzy bunnies or choo-choo trains and have the slightest of curls in their strawberry blond hair. I would swear they were the most beautiful in all the land. And I'd believe it.

I'd spend the day before boiling and coloring Easter eggs, making sure they were perfect. They would be extraordinary, not just the typical solid color eggs. Of course if you know me at all, you'd know that I'd do that anyway, with or without the wee ones. In fact, I did.

We'd go to church, because that's what good Christian families do. I'd drag the whole family with me and they'd go with me without argument, because we feel obligated to go twice a year. It's a shame, but it's true.

Afterwards, we'd all gather back at my Mom's for lunch of ham and canned or frozen spring veggies. I'd bring along a showstopper homemade dessert and we'd eat til we were so full that we'd all take naps on the couch or in the sought after recliner. I'm not a napper, so I'd go out back and hide the pastel eggs. Then I'd follow them around with an annoying camera in their faces and take pictures-lots of them, just so I could email them to all my friends and family and show off just how sweet they are. If I already send you emails, prepare yourself for what's to come.

I don't know why Easter holds so much for me, but it does. Maybe it's because it's a time of sunshine, of growth, of birth-- of renewal.

Like I said last year "Perhaps next year" will be different.

Happy Easter to all of you with and without your children.

These are blooms from Mr. H's grandmother's bougainvillea. When we went down last week for the funeral, I took several pictures because it's the fullest and most impressive I've ever seen it. It had the most beautiful fuchsia petals and tiny white blossoms. The bush was about 10 feet high and the entire length of the fence. Since her house was on a corner, you can see it from several blocks away-- like a hot pink stop sign.

Meeting

This is Lily. Isn't she a cutie?

Friday evening we met Becky, Derick and Lily in San Antonio. They arrived on Wednesday for their first family vacation. From what she wrote on her blog, I think they had a good time. At least I know the weather was nicer here in Texas than in Pennsylvania :-)

This is Becky and I waiting for the water taxi. We only had to walk a couple blocks back to the hotel, but we decided to take the water taxi since they had passes that were going to expire. It took forever--about an hour and a half, but it was a pleasant ride down the river. It's a good thing we didn't have any where to go. It was hot too and I got a little sun on my arms, but hopefully that'll turn into a tan. I'm hoping anyway :-)

Mr. H and I...

And here's Lily again. This was taken while we were on the river taxi. She was such a good trooper. I don't think she cried once while we were there. She was so quiet and well behaved. I was/am impressed by her. She kept staring at Mr. H who was sitting directly across from her. Look at her face! She cracks me up!

We planned on visiting the Alamo, but the tour line was forever long, so we decided to skip it and walk around and sight see instead. Look...more tourists!

We had a nice time in San Antonio. Our trip was very quick, but we got to meet some very sweet people that I had been looking forward to meeting for some time. Hopefully one day, we'll meet up again with our kiddos in tow. For now, I'll leave you with my favorite girls.

I miss them already.

Bittersweet

We're on our way out to attend the funeral for Mr. H's grandmother. The service will be tomorrow morning, followed by a luncheon at a local church.

Then we're off to San Antonio for the rest of the weekend to meet a long time blogging buddy, who is flying in from PA with her beautiful family.

It will definitely be a bittersweet weekend.

Thank you all for your comments, well wishes, prayers and thoughts regarding our loss. We appreciate them more than you know.
