Butterfly Wings

I've been writing another post in my head for a while now. But I can't seem to put it all the fragmented pieces together.

Until then, here are pictures of The Butterfly Haus at Wildseed Farms, just outside of Fredericksburg. It's a garden center, but they sell all kinds of things, they also have a gift shop and cafe.

In one of the empty water fountains was a little black kitten curled up and snoozing, with it's back against the cool stone. I pet him, but he was so content he barely opened his eyes before finding a new position.

The Butterfy Haus is just a screened in outdoor area, with a pond, several different flowers and tons of butterflies. Admission to the Farms is free but the butterfly haus has an admission of $5 and they encourage you to bring your camera- so I did. I had to get my $5 worth :-)

I took several pictures, but butterflies have a habit of flapping their wings (the nerve!) so a lot of them turned out blurry. I got a few good ones though.

Enjoy.

Summer

This picture cracks me up every time I see it. We got this ice cream doggie cookie at a dog shop in Fredericksburg for Autumn. In this picture she had just finished yawning which is why her eyes were closed and she was licking her lips.

Hilarious.

"Everybody's Somebody"- Day 2

Day 2 of our trip to Fredericksburg consisted of walking around town, doing a little window shopping and having lunch at Rather Sweet Bakery. This was definitely a highlight for me because I had been drooling over Rebecca Rather's cookbook- The Pastry Queen for quite some time. Her recipes are drool worthy :-)''' I also got her to sign my cookbooks- cool beans!

Here are a few pics of her restaurant/bakery.

Another good thing about this is that the B&B we stayed at gave us vouchers for breakfast at local restaurants. Rather Sweet was one of them, so we went for lunch and only had to pay a couple dollars. Then before we left, we went and loaded up on sweet treats to share with our in-laws for free!

We also went to The Nimitz Museum after lunch. A portion of it was closed becuase they're remodeling it and adding exhibits, but we were able to visit the Combat Zone, a small portion about Fleet Admiral Nimitz and we walked through the Japanese Garden of Peace.

I didn't take photos of the actual museum but I did get pictures of the garden.

And no hill country trip is complete til you've visited Luckenbach!

LBJ Ranch- Day 1

We're back from our mini vacation in Fredericksburg. We had a great, relaxing time, although it was a wee bit hot. Or rather, really stinkin' hot!

Here are pictures from President Lyndon B. Johnson's ranch, home and final resting place in Stonewall, TX. It is really an expansive amount of land where cattle roam freely, the Pedernales river flows, and the locusts hiss.

On this property is his 8,000 sqft. home, a cemetery where he and his wife, Lady Bird rest, a runway, a couple houses, a barn and an old school house.

If you've never been, just close your eyes (or don't cause you'll miss the pictures) turn off your a/c, sweat a little and pretend you're there.

When we finally got to Fredericksburg, most of the shops were already closed so we did a little window shopping. To cool off we stopped in a brewery for a beer and a salty pretzel with spicy mustard. It was as good as it looks!

Homecoming

I stole this picture from my Grandma's photo album about a year ago. Don't worry, I photo copied it and gave it back to her. I knew it was a picture of me and my mom but I didn't know when it was taken.

Several weeks back, my mom was telling me the story of my birth. She said she had a picture somewhere of her holding me at the park, when I was only 5 days old. I was born a little early so I had to stay in the hospital for a few days. I was released on the 4th of July and we went straight to Veteran's Park to enjoy the fireworks and festivities, complete with Coca-Cola.

In the bottom right-hand corner is my brother and my Grandpa's feet. And in case you're wondering, he still has those shoes.

I wish you all a safe and memorable Independence Day!

My Birthday and A Trip

This post is a few days overdue, I would say.

Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. I got a couple gifts, a few emails and lunch! So thank you all for being so sweet and kind. I love you guys!

The day before my birthday, I went to my moms and she made me shredded chicken tacos, rice and beans and a tres leches cake- yum! She also bought me an amethyst necklace and Mr. H bought me a pretty handbag and a candle.

My actual birthday was not that great. AF came and brought with her a good friend called "Bloated" and her friend "Irritability". I was one crabby lady and spent the day in my jammies. But I did manage to make myself a Strawberry Cheesecake Tart that was quite delicious!

The next day was nice though, I had a wonderful lunch with a friend (thanks Monica!) then spent the day with Mr. H. As part of my birthday gift, Mr. H planned a trip for us to go to Fredericksburg. We booked the B&B last night and we'll be taking a few days to relax and shop around a bit. I'm so excited. The cottage we're renting is so cute and it has a gazebo covered hot tub out back! Here are a few pics!

This weekend is my moms and my cousins birthday, so we'll be celebrating at home with a 4th of July/birthday BBQ. We'll be gone for 3 nights starting Monday and more than likely I won't have internet access unless we get free wi-fi in a cafe, but I'll catch up on your blogs when we get back. if any of you have ever been to F'burg, then leave me a comment and let me know places we should go or things we should do!

If you're needing a little 4th of July dessert, head on over to my baking blog for a little red, white and blue inspiration. Have a safe weekend y'all!
