Exemption

I'm still thinking about that damn stork in the front yard. I just don't get it. And I'm sure it'll still be there tomorrow when I get there.

The thing is, I knew she was going to put one up--I just forgot about it. When A. had her b.aby shower, she had some baby socks that were folded into looking like mini muffins. On top of the "muffins" were rosebuds and they were packaged in little cupcake boxes. They really were cute, but they were just socks. She had several gifts like this, and they were all from the same lady.

She pulled them out of a blue gift bag and showed them to me then proceeded to hand me a business card for the woman who made these. A grand smile appeared on her face when she started to talk about "these signs you can put out in the yard" that have the baby's info on it. I knew what she was talking about and just smiled and didn't say anything.

Then I started to think... I remember either reading an article or seeing something on the news about couples who put these signs in their yards and then had their babies abducted. It lets predators know there is a new baby in the home and then they can kidnap it. This concerns me. I would never do this just because it's happened to someone else. Why would someone put their babies' lives at risk just to show off?

So I told her about the risk and made my opinion clear. And she said, without a worry "Why would someone do that?" As in "why would someone kidnap a baby?" Ugh, why do babies die? Because they do! Neither are ideal, but they happen. It's life.

Why does she think she's exempt from pain? From life?

ETA: The stork was taken down today ::doing a happy dance!::

Some people just think they are above everything...We never even put the births in the paper because I am paranoid like that...I hate that you are being hurt this way....sending you lots of hugs....

She's just naive...we all live in "once upon a time" at some point in our lives, and that's where she is now. Nothing can happen to her.

I never thought about that, but it makes sense I guess. I'm extremely paranoid about someone coming and taking my baby. I have horrible fantasy's about someone car jacking us or something crazy like that with Lily in the car. I'm afraid to take her places by myself sometimes because I'm afraid that someone will try and take her and I won't be able to stop them.

Maybe it's not normal to feel that way, though. Maybe, I mean not to say that I'm not normal, but maybe 'regular' people don't think that way. Maybe regular people don't worry constantly that their baby might not be there when they wake up in the morning. That's a concept I just don't get. Why wouldn't you be concerned about that?!

Ugh, I'm sorry the stork is still up. I'm sorry that you can't throw rocks at it until the head breaks off. Those damn things...a reminder of what we don't have.

On the road to the cemetary shortly after we lost Dylan there was the exact sign for a baby boy. I remember the pain that it caused me, and I can't imagine seeing that every single day and then walking through the doors of that house.

Some people just think things only happen to others.

Personally I think the stork is a bit overboard, but I wouldn't be worried about someone kidnapping a baby from it any more than I would from them looking up the birth announcements from the local hospitals. Even though they only use first names on the website, lots of hospitals send the parents information to newspapers.

you are SO right, how crepy advertising your kids. may as well put your kids names first and last w/addresses on the outside of their jackets or back packs. I'm paranoid as is about stuff like that. NO signs will be posted at my home thank you! tho I do so love Vlassic Pickles!

I swear some people just think they are above everything. I had a coworker tell me, I don't think I'll have any problems my sisters had their kids just fine. I told her well so did my Mom and my sisters, and me I ended up with a deadbaby.

And you know it's OK if they think this way, but I wish they would keep to themselves. Especially in front of us, the less fortunate.

Lots of hugs for you. I 'm happy the damn stork came down. I think those things are so damn dorky anyway.

Can i slap her? Pleeeeaaaaase?!

I say you set the damn stork on fire...that way you lower her risk of an unlikely (but possible abduction) and you don't have to see that annoying reminder.
