6 Months and Counting

A few of you have asked about the status of us TTC. I don't mind the interest or the questions, it's just easier to write about it here than to answer the same thing several times in emails.

So... as of today, May 1st, we are at 6 months and counting. Last month I thought I could have been ...with child, then AF showed up 3 weeks late and ruined it for me. This month was a bust too. I started a week earlier than I should have. It lasted a week then stopped, then 2 days later I started spotting again.

So we wait and see.

Anyone have any suggestions on ovulation predictors/methods. I've tried OPK's and they're too expensive for me to keep up with and I did it for 3 months and never saw the egg. Anything you did that worked?

BTW, today is also my Dad's birthday. Happy Birthday Asshole.

Hon, have you tried the Billings method, but used it to conceive rather than avoid pregnancy? It's tracking using thermometers and charting and it works pretty well. let me know if you want the details.
And um, Happy Birthday to your dad too?
love your friend who really DOESN"T want to move to Qatar xx

Hi Monica,
I used a basil thermometer and charted. I first had a mercury one, then got smart and got the digital! I don't know if you are familiar with this, but basically you take your temp before moving at all in the morning; leave it by the bed! The chart comes with the thermometer. I copied my chart so I could use it again. That has always worked for me. Also, I have horrible pain when I ovulate and can hardly walk. Also the mucus is always there and obvious. I know how frustrating it can be; hang in there! Praying for a baby soon!

Chart your temps, like the other commenters suggested. It can be a pain, but it works! Check out the website www.fertilityfriend.com - lots of good info there.

Yes, temp combined with discharge works, imho. Having said that, it might be a good idea to check sperm motility because that part has to work, too... You might have already done that, I'm new here and haven't read all your posts.

I love your disclaimer btw, resonates very much with how I feel at times.

the following worked for me:
watching my cervical mucus and having sex every other day during your fetile period. so typically..day 10,12,14,16 heck even 18. i know it can be touch to figure it out if you don't have a regular cycle. In that case, I would have sex every 2-3 days.

6 months...I've got all things crossed for you each month.

I concur with the other comments. Try temping. You can use fertilityfriend dot com. They have a free tracker where you can list your temps and lots of other things. For me, temping with PCOS was a bit frustrating...but still worked to show me what I needed to see (that I wasn't O'ing). Feel free to email me if you want any info - I obsessed over this stuff for quite a while!

This is going to sound gross but one thing that might be helpful is checking your cervical mucus (it's supposed to be like egg whites in texture and elasticity). I rarely ovulate on my own, thanks to pcos, so I didn't have much luck with those ovulation predictor thingies until I took Clomid :/. Good luck! Keep us posted! Oh, but you can also buy the cheap ovulation predictor kits online here: http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/

One more thing, has your doc checked you to make sure you're ovulating consistently? My doctor mentioned that women who are irregular can also have issues with ovulating (just something you might want to ask the doc about b/c I'm not expert :P.) Sorry for the long msg!! Have a great weekend!

Monica,
When I was trying to get pregnant after Lucas and my m/c, I tried the signs of the mucus and had sex then. I did that for quite a while and then became frustrated. I finally broke down and bought the OPK and found out I actually ovulated a couple of days after that yucky mucus appeared. Best of luck to you!

The BEST thing is a contraption I have. It's called Ovulite. It tests your spit and it's 99.9% accurate. So much better and easier than any other methods.

If you want to borrow it, you can. It looks like a tube of lipstick. It has a light in it and a top you take off. you flip the top over (which is a lens) and then each AM when you wake up, you put spit from under your tongue on it. When it dries, you pop it back on, push the light button and look into the lens. If you see "ferns", you're ovulating. There will be none if you're not. Trust me, it works. Got pregnant when I wanted to with Corban and haven't any other time.
